Common Eye Diseases And Symptoms

According to an ophthalmologist (more laser vision correction info here and here), eye diseases cannot be noticed at an early stage. That is because they have no early symptoms and they do not cause any pain when the problem starts. Moreover, you also need to acknowledge the fact that some of these diseases get worse with time and cause poor vision or even blindness. Here are some of the most common eye diseases that affect a great many people today.

Various Eye Diseases And Their Symptoms

Strabismus or crossed eyes is a disease that causes the patient not to have the ability to align both eyes at the same time or in the same position. Even though this particular eye disease usually affects babies and children that are under the age of five, the condition can be treated if noticed at an early stage.

Symptoms Of Crossed Eyes

For crossed eyes disease, the first obvious symptom you will notice is the eyes pointing in different directions. However, when it comes to young children, it is advisable that you observe symptoms such as lack of coordination of the eyes, squinting using one eye and tilting the head constantly to one side.

2. Glaucoma

Glaucoma is caused by fluids, which build up and create pressure on the eye. When this happens, the optic nerve easily gets damaged, which is responsible for transmitting information from both eyes to the brain. If the damage is severe and not treated at an early stage, it can lead to blindness and cannot be reversed later on.
Glaucoma Symptoms
Symptoms related to glaucoma disease include vomiting and nausea, blurred vision, constant headaches, pain on the affected eye and rainbow haloes. Glaucoma may be difficult to detect, but when you notice any of these symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical attention before the damage progresses further.

3. Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a condition, caused by an irregular shape of a cornea. This prevents the light from reaching or focusing directly at the retina. When this eye disease develops, the round cornea becomes thin, which results in blurred vision.

Symptoms Of Keratoconus

At an early stage, this eye disease may cause the victim to experience distorted or blurred vision. If the condition is not treated at this stage, the distorted vision might become worse and develop glare. However, when noticed at an early stage, the condition can be treated using contact lenses and eyeglasses.

These are some of the most common eye diseases that most people struggle with every day. However, by learning about these conditions, you can be able to identify the symptoms much easier and seek early treatment.
